Description:
Since April 2015, NCAR's Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology (MMM) Laboratory, in collaboration with NCAR's Computational Information Systems Laboratory (CISL), has been producing daily, real-time, 10 member, 48 hour ensemble forecasts with 3 km horizontal grid spacing over the conterminous United States (http://ensemble.ucar.edu). Selected post-processed 2D fields and select soundings are available.

Description:
ERA-20C is ECMWF's first atmospheric reanalysis of the 20th century, from 1900-2010. It assimilates observations of surface pressure and surface marine winds only. It is an outcome of the ERA-CLIM project.
ERA-20C was produced with IFS version CY38r1 and the same surface and atmospheric forcings as the final version of the atmospheric model integration ERA-20CM. A coupled atmosphere land surface and ocean wave model is used to reanalyze the weather, by assimilating surface observations. The…

Note: Since this dataset now has a duplicate copy in AWS, we will stop continuous updates of this dataset in the summer 2025.The NCEP operational Global Data Assimilation System surface flux grids are on a T574 Gaussian global grid. Grids include analysis and forecast time steps at a 3 hourly interval from 0 to 9 hours. Model runs occur at 00, 06, 12, and 18 UTC daily. For real-time data access please use the NCEP data server.

Description:
This dataset is a collection of various NCEP GFS data used by NCAR's researchers. It consists of periods of GFS spectral coefficients (in binary format) and flux terms (in GRIB format), as well as their transformed, gridded NetCDF files of various spatial resolutions, T382, T254, T170 and T62. There is no attempt to recover, reconstruct missing data. All products are provided as is.

The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (CFSR) was initially completed over the 31-year period from 1979 to 2009 and has been extended to March 2011. CFSR monthly atmospheric, oceanic and land surface output products are available at 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 1.9, and 2.5 degree horizontal resolutions as 6-hourly diurnal monthly means (0000, 0600, 1200, and 1800 UTC) and regular full monthly means. As a value-add for longer-term climate research, the CI…

This dataset is used in a study (Lee et al. 2021) in which we compared total aerosol forecasts in the Middle East from three publicly available models, from NASA and NOAA in the U.S. and from CAMS in Europe. We used forecasts issued twice daily during all of 2018 and 2019. From each model run we validated forecasts of total aerosol optical depth at 550 nm (AOD550) against observations made from 20 ground-based AERONET stations across the region. We found that the NASA GEOS-5 model performed the…

The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (CFSR) was initially completed over the 31-year period from 1979 to 2009 and has been extended to March 2011. NCEP has created selected time series products at hourly temporal resolution by combining either 1) the analysis and one- through five-hour forecasts, or 2) the one- through six-hour forecasts, for each initialization time. Please note that NCEP only created time series for parameter/level combin…

Realtime micro-scale weather simulations were performed to support UAV (Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle) flights during the ISARRA Lower Atmospheric Process Studies at Elevation a Remotely-piloted Aircraft Team Experiment (LAPSE-RATE) field deployment. These simulations were performed by driving a nested grid configuration of the Weather Research and Forecasting model with its innermost mesh being run at 111 m grid spacing. The innermost grid was nested within a grid with 1 km grid spacing. The outermo…
