Description:
These NCEP ADP operational global synoptic upper air data reports were collected from the GTS during time slots centered on the 6-hourly analysis times of their global and regional models. Five types of data were collected, and all types include data for various levels, such as "significant level" and flight level. The reports may include pressure, geopotential height, temperature, dew point depression, wind direction and speed. The five types are: 1) radiosondes and pibals launched from …
Dataset ID: d353004
Description:
NCEP Climate Forecast System (CFSR and CFSv2) initial conditions, full ingest data are found in this dataset collection. These data include conventional and satellite observations, and some select gridded analysis products. The satellite observations contains a subset of the level 1b or higher satellite data products used in the NCEP Global Data Assimilation System. These files can be used with the Weather Research Forecast (WRF), and Community Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation (GSI) Data A…
Dataset ID: d099000
Description:
These NCEP ADP operational global synoptic surface data reports were collected from the GTS during time slots centered on the 6-hourly analysis times of their global and regional models. Two types of data were collected and the reports usually include pressure, temperature, dew point depression, wind direction and speed. NCEP also decoded the precipitation data, but only for the U.S. and Canada. The two types are: 1) data from land stations, including SYNOP, METAR, and beginning in the mi…
Dataset ID: d464000
Description:
This dataset contains a subset of the level 1b or higher satellite data products used in the NCEP Global Data Assimilation System. These files can be used with the Weather Research Forecast (WRF) Data Assimilation (DA) system. However, they can be useful for a variety of applications, particularly where conventional data is scarce. File sizes may vary due to operational changes.
Dataset ID: d735000
Description:
NCEP ADP Global Upper Air Observational Weather Data are composed of global upper air weather reports operationally collected by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). These include radiosondes, pibals and aircraft reports from the Global Telecommunications System (GTS), and satellite data from the National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS). The reports can include pressure, geopotential height, air temperature, dew point tempe…
Dataset ID: d351000
Description:
NCEP ADP Global Surface Observational Weather Data are composed of surface weather reports operationally collected by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). The data includes land and marine surface reports received via the Global Telecommunications System (GTS). Variables recorded in the reports include pressure, air temperature, dew point temperature, wind direction and speed. Precipitation data has been decoded for the U.S. and Canada. Report intervals range…
Dataset ID: d461000
Description:
NCEP ADP Global Upper Air and Surface Weather Observations (PREPBUFR format) are composed of a global set of surface and upper air reports operationally collected by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). These include land surface, marine surface, radiosonde, pibal and aircraft reports from the Global Telecommunications System (GTS), profiler and US radar derived winds, SSM/I oceanic winds and TCW retrievals, and satellite wind data from the National Environmental Satel…
Dataset ID: d337000
For ancillary use only - not recommended as a primary research dataset. It has likely been superseded by newer and better datasets.
Description:
Products from NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis Project (NNRP or R1) are archived in this dataset. The resolution of the global Reanalysis Model is T62 (209 km) with 28 vertical sigma levels. Results are available at 6 hour intervals. Although the initial plan is to reanalyze the data for a 40-year period (1957-1996), production has gone back to 1948 and going forward continuously. Future plans call for rerunning the entire period as next generation models are ready. There a…

There are 1654 public datasets in the GDEX archive. The GDEX dataset search and discovery allows you to search for datasets by keyword and filter by facets. Facet descriptions are given below, including the number of datasets (in parentheses) in each.

Keywords (1654)
Keywords are high-level groupings of parameters describing a topic or subtopic - e.g. Atmosphere (topic), Clouds (subtopic of Atmosphere).
Variable (1654)
A variable or parameter is the quantity that is measured, derived, or computed - e.g. the data value.
Platform (1654)
The platform is the entity or type of entity that acquired or computed the data (e.g. aircraft, land station, reanalysis model).
Spatial Resolution (383)
This refers to the horizontal distance between discrete gridpoints of a model product, reporting stations in a network, measurements of a moving platform, etc.
Time Resolution (246)
This refers to the distance in time between discrete observation measurements, model product valid times, etc.
Data Format (1652)
This refers to the structure of the bitstream used to encapsulate the data values in a record or file - e.g ASCII, netCDF, etc.
Data Type (1654)
This refers to the type of data values - e.g. grid (interpolated or computed gridpoint data), platform observation (in-situ and remotely sensed measurements), etc.
Project / Experiment (881)
This is the scientific project, field campaign, or experiment that acquired the data.
Supports Project (51)
This refers to data that were acquired to support a scientific project or experiment (e.g. GATE) or that can be used as ingest for a project (e.g. WRF).
Location (114)
This is the name of the (usually geographic) location or region for which the data are valid.
