Goals:
Determine SOA yield of OH radical oxidation of the VOC
Summary:
Experiments were conducted in an 8.0 m3 Teflon chamber at ambient temperature (?25 °C) and pressure (?630 Torr). Chamber air (<5 ppbv hydrocarbons and <1% RH) was supplied by two AADCO 737-Series pure air generators. The chamber was first seeded with dioctyl sebacate (DOS) particles generated using an evaporation?condensation source, and then a measured amount of dodecanone isomer was added from a heated glass bulb in a flow of nitrogen, followed by NO and methyl nitrite, which were each added from a calibrated glass bulb that was filled to a measured pressure on a vacuum manifold and then flushed with nitrogen. After adding each component a Teflon-coated fan was used to actively mix the chamber for 30 s. Concentrations of dodecanone, NO, and methyl nitrite were 1, 5, and 5 ppmv, with 200 ?g m?3 DOS seed particles added. To initiate the reaction, blacklights that cover two walls of the chamber were turned on for 60 min at light intensities equivalent to NO2 photolysis rate constant of 0.37 min?1, respectively, to generate OH radicals from methyl nitrite photolysis
