Description:
Atmospheric River Tracking Method Intercomparison Project (ARTMIP) Tier 2 Reanalysis developer catalogues and source data. Each ARTMIP method/algorithm (named by developer) submits a catalogue comprised of 0's (no AR exists) or 1's (yes AR exists) for each time slice, for each grid point, using reanalysis data from MERRA-2, ERA5, JRA-55 and JRA-55C. Quantities required for algorithms, such as IVT or IWV, were provided directly from the reanalysis output to avoid differences due to vertical reso…

Description:
We examine results from two transient modeling experiments that simulate the Last Interglacial period (LIG) using the state-of-the-art Community Earth System Model (CESM2), with a focus on climate and ocean changes relevant to the possible collapse of the Antarctic ice sheet. The experiments simulate the early millennia of the LIG warm period using orbital forcing, greenhouse gas concentrations and vegetation appropriate for 127ka; in the first case (127ka) no other changes are made; in the sec…

The Great Plains Low-Level Jet Occurrence and Upper-Level Coupling CERA-20C dataset comprises a 3-hourly record of low-level jet activity and degree of upper-atmospheric jet stream coupling over the contiguous United States from 1901-2010 derived from CERA-20C following the objective dynamically-based methodology of Burrows et al. (2019). This dataset extends the work of Uccellini (1980) who first highlighted variations in the degree of coupling between low-level jets and upper-level flow using…

Description:
This dataset contains quasi-dynamically downscaled climate data from 8 global climate models from the CMIP5 archive. The data were downscaled using the Intermediate Complexity Atmospheric Research (ICAR Gutmann et al., 2016) model after bias correcting the GCM three dimensional atmospheric data to match the ERA-interim reanalysis climatology (Dee et al., 2011). ICAR was configured with the Thompson microphysics, a simple PBL parameterization based on YSU, the RRTMG longwave radiation and an emp…

The objective of this field campaign was to study the Lake Michigan springtime lake-breeze circulation in Milwaukee. Measurements of profiles of temperature, humidity, winds, clouds and aerosols were made by the SPARC facility from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. These activities were part of an atmospheric science measurements course taught by Prof. Clark Evans at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

A post hoc empirical correction procedure has been applied to grid box anomalies in total cloud amount from the International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) dataset and the Pathfinder Atmospheres - Extended (PATMOS-x) dataset to remove spurious variability related to changes in satellite orbit, instrument calibration, and other factors. The corrected satellite cloud datasets are useful for investigation of regional cloud changes but can not be used for studies of globally averaged …

The CESM1-CAM5 fixed ozone runs are eight CESM simulations that use the Large Ensemble (LENS) code base and were initialized in 1955 with Large Ensemble members. The runs use the same external forcings as those in the 20th Century CESM LENS except for ozone. Instead of prescribing a time-varying ozone concentration as in LENS, ozone is kept at constant 1955 concentrations. (The ozone file is available under the Data Access tab.) Note that the global ozone concentrations are fixed, including bot…

This revision is Version 1e for QSCAT Ku-2001 ocean surface winds
derived using a locally weighted regression interpolation
method. The region of influence (ROI) varies depending on
the quality of the resultant interpolation. ROI of 3 and
5 degrees (latitude by longitude) have been used. The
resultant grids are 0.5 degrees and 3 hour resolution. The
coverage is for 40S to the 70S.
The QSCAT (Ku-2001) satellite data were provided by
Remote Sensi…
